NSP Performance Race FSL – inflatable race SUP for serious competitive paddlers

In a world where it is not always practical to travel or store a 14ft Pro Carbon race board, the NSP Race Division delivers a clear answer with the Performance Race FSL series: an inflatable race board that transfers the hydrodynamic principles of NSP’s world title winning Pro Carbon race boards into a packable format – without compromising the speed and efficiency that competitive paddlers demand.

The Performance Race FSL (Fusion Light) achieves this through a combination of NSP’s proven FSL lightweight construction and two decisive technical innovations: the double chamber nose system and the Air7 V3 finbox system. Both innovations are directly targeted at the demands of competitive racing and bring the Performance Race FSL closer to the characteristics of a hardboard than any inflatable race board NSP has built before.

The series is available in four sizes – from the sprint-oriented 12'6" x 25" for lighter, experienced racers to the wider 14'0" x 27" for heavier riders or rougher conditions. If you take your race starts seriously, compete at weekends and train through the week, if you place speed and efficiency above comfort and beginner-friendliness – the Performance Race FSL series delivers the tool that level of commitment deserves.

Double Chamber Nose

The defining technical innovation of the Performance Race FSL is the additional air chamber positioned directly in front of the standing area. This second chamber emulates the volume found in the nose section of NSP’s Pro Carbon race boards – those same constructions with which NSP has claimed world titles. In practice, this translates into several concrete advantages for the race paddler:

First, the double chamber nose significantly reduces water entry into the standing zone. At high pace and in choppy conditions, the immediate paddling environment stays drier and more stable. Second, the additional chamber supports the board in resurfacing faster after nose submersion, and without the typical flutter behaviour that costs speed. Nose flutter – a frequent speed killer on inflatable race boards – is effectively suppressed by the additional chamber. Third, this hydrodynamically optimised nose geometry allows the paddler to sustain pace in difficult conditions with less energy expenditure.

Air7 V3 Finbox System

The new Air7 V3 finbox system is a focused development on existing Race FSL technology. A conventional fixed finbox on an inflatable board creates permanent hydrodynamic drag during use – and when not in use, a rigid finbox prevents the board from rolling cleanly and compactly.

The Air7 V3 system solves both problems: the new low-profile finbox design creates significantly less drag compared to conventional inflatable finbox systems. In race conditions, that means less resistance and more speed for the same effort. And when the session is over, the fin is removed in seconds, the board rolls up cleanly and packs down compactly – with no compromise on pack size or weight.

Construction

The Performance Race FSL uses NSP’s proven FSL Fusion Light construction technology: a lightweight yet stiff build specifically developed for inflatable race boards. The construction prioritises rigidity under load – the stiffer the board under paddle stroke, the more efficiently energy is converted into forward drive. At the same time, the board remains compact and travel-ready, making it the ideal companion for race travel and training sessions where transporting or storing a hardboard is not practical.

The thermoformed EVA deck pad with integrated trim guide gives the paddler a clear visual reference for optimal foot placement – a detail that can make a difference in race conditions. Accessories such as a GPS computer or trip computer can be mounted directly on the dedicated mount without interrupting paddling flow.

Size Guide

The Performance Race FSL is not a beginner board. The following guidance is aimed at experienced race paddlers selecting their optimal size based on body weight, technical ability and preferred conditions.

12'6" x 25" – 290 L

The 12'6" version of the Performance Race FSL is designed for sprint and distance racing in the 12'6" race class. At 25" wide and 290 litres, this is the narrowest and fastest option in the series in this length class – built for lighter, experienced race paddlers who prioritise maximum speed.

  • Race class: 12'6" distance and sprint racing.
  • Recommendation: experienced race paddlers up to approx. 80 kg body weight.
  • Character: fast, demanding – requires good balance and strong race technique.

14'0" x 23" – 308 L

The narrowest and fastest 14'0" option in the Performance Race FSL series. At 23" wide and 308 litres, this board operates in the territory of elite 14’ race boards – a size for paddlers with excellent balance, refined race technique and a clear goal of extracting the maximum from the 14’ race class.

  • Race class: 14'0" elite racing.
  • Recommendation: elite race paddlers up to approx. 85 kg body weight with excellent balance and race technique.
  • Character: maximum speed, highly demanding – not for occasional race paddlers.

14'0" x 25" – 325 L

The most versatile and most popular 14’ option in the Performance Race FSL. At 25" wide and 325 litres, this size delivers a strong balance of speed and stability – fast enough for competitive racing, stable enough for mixed water conditions and a range of rider weights.

  • Race class: 14'0" all-round racing, also suited to open water events.
  • Recommendation: race paddlers from approx. 70–95 kg body weight.
  • Character: balanced – strong performance in flat water and mixed conditions (chop, light swell).

14'0" x 27" – 340 L

The most stable and highest-volume option in the Performance Race FSL series. At 27" wide and 340 litres, this size is designed for heavier race paddlers or for conditions where additional stability provides a decisive tactical advantage – such as in rough open water or windy conditions.

  • Race class: 14'0" racing for heavier riders and more demanding conditions.
  • Recommendation: race paddlers from approx. 85 kg body weight or in rougher open water.
  • Character: stable, reliable – enables consistent pace even in difficult conditions.
