TALKS & STORYS
MICHAEL WALTHER
“Together, we can steer things in the right direction. If you're committed to protecting the climate and our oceans, you're not alone. We are millions — even billions of people! Now is the time to take action together.”
In his talk with Q&A, Michael — the initiator of the Zero Emissions Project — shares insights into climate action, deep nature experiences, and extreme sports:
- His SUP adventure in Iceland: paddling for environmental protection — alongside whales and beneath the northern lights
- Teaser and introduction to the Iceland-based documentary “Time To Act”, premiering in Kiel in June 2025
- His upcoming extreme challenge in fall 2025:
“Solo SUP journey from Portugal to South America – 6000 km across the Atlantic as a statement for climate protection”
CHRIS FREEMAN
Meet the Co-Founder of Black Project! At 18, he came to Maui as a competitive windsurfer. Although he later returned to the UK and built a successful career in education, the island never let go of him. Together with his friend Tom Hammerton, he eventually founded Black Project. For over 12 years, the company has been known for top-tier windsurf and SUP gear — renowned for world titles, high-performance paddles, and fins.
Despite all the success, Chris has stayed true to his original mission: helping people discover the joy of being on the water.
He’s traveling all the way from Hawaii to share firsthand insights in his workshops and tech talks.
- Why can investing in a quality paddle be a true game changer?
- Workshops: Paddle design, materials, and paddling technique

BASTIAN GRIMM
Bastian Grimm, stand-up paddler from Northern Germany, German SUP Champion in Long Distance and the first person to cross the Fehmarnbelt on a SUP.
In his talk, he shares what it takes to plan and complete a SUP downwinder crossing — from physical preparation and gear selection to analyzing the perfect weather window.
A special focus is placed on the topic of safety:
- What precautions are essential to minimize risks?
- How do you plan extreme downwind crossings?
- How do you prepare — physically and in terms of safety?
FRANK THEELEN & CARSTEN KURMIS
Multisport athletes and adventurers. Frank paddled the Rhine on a SUP from Lake Constance all the way to Duisburg — 777 km solo and without a break.
Carsten has been a major name in stand-up paddling since the early days, with numerous championship titles and a long-standing friendship (and race rivalry) with us.
As modern-day Daltons on a mega-SUP, Frank and Carsten teamed up with an Austrian and a Canadian to take on the Yukon standing up —
and discovered, in a place once fought over by gold prospectors, a natural paradise where humans feel miniature.
- What makes someone want to paddle the entire Rhine on a SUP?
- Yukon SUP Adventure — one team, one board, surrounded by breathtaking nature

KAI-NICOLAS STEIMER
Kai is co-founder of SUP Spirit Soul and the "brain" behind gear and tech at SUPstore. As a naval architect and successful stand-up paddler with 11 German championship titles across all disciplines, he ranks among the elite of the scene. His participation in international competitions and pioneering role in SUP and foiling in Germany have significantly shaped the sport. During his time as a team rider and shaper for Fanatic, Kai wasn’t just close to the latest innovations — he actively helped develop them. Through years of training with top athletes around the globe, he has built up deep knowledge of technology, materials, and the finer points of SUP performance.
Kai will share insights on:
- The right equipment for your successful wave SUP start
